#BookReview: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo #MyFriendAlexa

Posted on 19 September 20211 October 2021 By Mayuri Sharrma

Read What?
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins  Reid.
.
Read Where?
Kindle. Also available in Hard Cover, Paperback & Audible.
.
Language. Genre. Pages:
English. Fiction/Drama. 400.

Seven-husbands=evelyn=hugo=taylor=jenkins-sirimiri
.
What’s it about?
Evelyn Hugo is a retired and reticent Movie Star. While her buxom beauty and 7 Husbands are what people identify her with, Evelyn has facets to her character that no one knows about.
Evelyn decides that it’s time the world does and summons a young journalist, under subterfuge, to write her story.
When green eared Monique is cherry-picked, she is as surprised and curious as everyone around her and wonders why she was chosen.
As Evelyn Hugo opens up her home, and heart, and her life story unfolds  Monique wishes she had never found out.
.
What did I think of it?
As soon as I started reading the book, I was in awe of Evelyn. Her saas, chutzpah, comebacks, and wisdom had me enthralled. Throughout the book, I couldn’t decide whether I loved her or hated her. What I did know was that Evelyn Hugo is a once-in-a-lifetime woman!
Author Taylor Jenkins Reid is a phenomenal writer! Her astute powers of observation have helped her craft characters you want to know more about, and those that stay with you long after you have finished reading.
Reid recreates retro Hollywood via this story, and you are likely to pause your reading to guess who a particular character could be based on.
From the 1st page to the last, this book held my attention, and how!
.
Wow or Not Now? Right now, please!
.
What Else? It’s been a while since I sacrificed sleep for a book, and I sacrificed 2 nights for this one! Also, I erroneously assumed that this book was the one the Hindi film, ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’ was based on. It isn’t.

*****5 Stars to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

My rating chart;

*Use it as a doorstop.
**Read it if you have nothing better to do.
***You may like it if you like this particular genre.
****Must read!
*****What! You haven’t read it YET?!

Ha! The seven husbands made me also think of 7 Khoon Maaf immediately. The plot reminded me of an episode I saw on Remington Steele of a yesteryear actress and the ploy to murder her. But because she’s old, no one but Steele believes her.
