Paniyaram. Paddu. Appe. Call them what you must, but they are delicious. I think Paniyaram is very healthy , as it is steamed, using just a drop of oil, and if made like this, packed with nutrition.
Ingredients:
1 Cup Urad Dal
1 Cup Chana Dal
1 Cup Broken Wheat (Dalia)
2-3 Green Chillies, chopped fine
1 Tbsp Ginger-Garlic paste
Salt, to taste.
Method:
Wash the dals well.
Soak together for 4-5 hours, or overnight.
Discard the water the dals were soaked in.
Grind the dals to a fine paste, along with the chopped chillies, ginger-garlic paste, salt and water, as required.
(The batter needs to be a little thinner than dosa batter, to ensure that the paddu’s are cooked through)
Grease each well of your paniyaram pan with a drop or two of oil.
Drop in a spoonful of batter into each well.
Cover and cook on a low flame, till the bottoms start browning.
Flip the paddu’s and cook on the other side till done.
Serve hot, with a chutney of your choice.
