A Medall for Women

Posted on 11 March 202031 May 2021 By Mayuri Sharrma

Namaskara!

Is the greeting Medall Laboratories welcomes you with.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Each for Equal’, which means collectively each one of us can help create a gender-equal world.

Medall Labs invited a few Chennai-based Women Bloggers to their Laboratory in Guindy to talk about women’s health. Stay aware – Stay healthy is their motto, and their centralized, well-equipped laboratory which conducts 2500-3000 sample tests per day is helping people do that.

Medall-Women-Sirimiri

Medall is India’s leading integrated Healthcare Diagnostics and the 4th largest Diagnostics player in India. With 7000 + customer touchpoints in 9 States and 70+ Districts, 24 NABL Accredited Labs, and 108 ISO Certified Labs, Medall provides both Radiology and Pathology services under one roof. Medall has served over 10 Million customers and performed over 40 Million tests in 2019.

Dr. Akila Ravikumar, (M.B.B.S, Dip. in Diabetology, M.phil), Physician at Medall Diagnostics says, “Lifestyle changes have spared none. Today’s working women face an equal amount of stress vis-a-vis their male counterparts and are bearing the brunt of many lifestyle disorders. These lifestyle disorders have a significant impact on their reproductive health during the childbearing years, amplifying the need for women to go for preventive healthcare and take steps to address them”

Dr Akila believes that moderation is the key, in all spheres of life. There was so much to learn from her talk.

For instance, did you know that;

An estimated 68% of Women suffer from Lifestyle induced diseases.

53% of Women skip meals and binge on Junk Food or Fast Food to meet work pressure or deadlines.

80% of Urban Indian Working Women in the age of 25-45 are over-weight due to stress, a sedentary lifestyle, or unhealthy eating habits.

Cortisol is a stress hormone that is secreted when you exercise in excess.

Indians have more Visceral Fat than other nationalities do.

Non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension are higher causes for concern than communicable diseases.

Early detection leads to a better prognosis.

Women’s lifestyle choices put them at a growing risk of chronic diseases. More women are unhealthy than men according to the GOQii India Fit Report 2020. A staggering 71% of women fall in the unhealthy category and young adults in the 19-30 age group have the unhealthiest habits and demonstrate a high propensity to be afflicted by lifestyle diseases.

Fortunately today preventive healthcare is gaining popularity.  With a plethora of opportunities and cost-effective options, it is helping prevent irreversible damage.  Coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8th, Medall, among India’s leading integrated diagnostic services providers, is raising awareness in the space of preventive health among women, through a slew of initiatives and specially curated packages.

This is a lovely way to spend the Women’s day among beautiful ladies. We often don’t look after ourselves because we are so busy looking after family and others. Liked how she explained.

It must indeed be an eye-opening and informative session. Women tend to take their own health lightly while caring for their families the whole time. QALY is something we must keep in mind.

Ignorance and keeping ourselves at the far end of concerns pyramid is the reason we women often don’t realize the heath issues. Glad to learn about QALY and how Medall is running this initiative for women’s health.
