The World is the Oyster making me a Pearl #SayYesToTheWorld #BloggerContest

It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to – J.R.R Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings.

This quote is one of my favourites because it sums me up perfectly, as I went from someone who hated traveling to someone who has changed for the better as she began enjoying it.

My first brush with traveling started with my Dad, who coaxed me to accompany him on his trips. I began as a reluctant traveller, and a fussy and grumpy one at that. Hats off to Dad who humoured me as he showed me the world.

An arranged marriage brought me and my Husband together and travel brought us closer. As we explored new countries and cities together we discovered each other.

Amongst the prayer flags, in Bhutan.

Delayed flights, abrupt change in plans and the weather made me realise how little is in our control. You could plan a trip to the T, and Nature takes a nanosecond to show you who is boss. Patience was never one of my virtues, till I started traveling.

If viewed at practically, each city in the world is made up of bricks, mortar, stone, sky and earth till we realise  how different each one is from the other. Much like humans. The difference is what makes the world, and humans, interesting. This realisation changed my perspective towards life and people.

Sirimiri- World Oyster-Pearl #SayYesToTheWorld

When on a holiday, watching the locals rushing to work in the mornings and rushing back home in the evening made me grateful, for the opportunity to be self-indulgent and taking a break.

Waterfalls, rainbows, greenery and more, all the things that enthral us are nature’s bounties. Nature is a giver, who keeps giving even when we don’t return the favour; another humbling lesson.

Catching my first snowfall on my tongue in Beijing, watching nature flaunt all shades of blue in Maldives, welcoming our first New Year together on our honeymoon, with fireworks lighting up Darling Harbour, Sydney. Holding our breath as a Tiger circled our open jeep, on a Safari in Ranthambore. Snaking through the canals of Venice with our Gondolier’s mellifluous singing punctuating the silence. Taking a dip in the holy river, Godavari, in my Husband’s ancestral town, Vijjeswaram. Just a few of the many precious memories, courtesy being open to new experiences, accrued as a World Traveller.

Travel is also a great reminder of how miniscule your presence is in the big picture called life. I love to lose myself to travel and find myself through it. Share on X

At the end of the day traveling made me realise the value of home. Of coming back to warm smiles, comforting food and the serenity of familiarity.

A Pearl is formed when an  irritant works its way into an Oyster, and as a defence mechanism a fluid is secreted by the oyster to coat the irritant. Layer upon layer of this coating, called ‘Nacre’ is deposited until a lustrous pearl is formed. In much the same way the world is and has been my Oyster, and every irritant I faced in my exploration coated me with yet another layer of patience, experience, discovery and to some extent wisdom.

The world is the Oyster making me a Pearl, which is why I always say an enthusiastic #YesToTheWorld.

A road trip is NOT a road trip unless you have some car/trailer malfunction or a wrong turn somewhere, to make it interesting. Just like a road trip something should be differ in life to make it interesting. Thank you for the wonderful post.
