Of Thoughts and Decisions #BlogaberryDazzle

A life-changing decision is not one that a person takes suddenly. Even though sometimes it may often seem like it is done so.

It begins with a thought that sprouts up out of the blue, and is quashed by you immediately. Because the guilt, possibly even fear, of even thinking of something like that shakes you up.

You think you have killed the thought, and go about with your life. But the thought you do not want to think about is there somewhere. A seed buried deep into the fertile soil of your mind. It takes a while to, but the seed of thought does sprout again.

This time it does not scare you, though it may startle you with its re-appearance.

This time, you tell yourself, that its presence doesn’t matter, but you let it stay. Until you begin to water this seed of thought with drizzles of your curiosity. Each time you wonder, what if? Each time your fertile mind looks at the possibilities this thought could lead you to. Each time you think about its presence, you give it power that helps it grow.

The bud of the thought now grows into a plant you can no longer ignore or suppress. You decide to get comfortable with it. Before long the plant begins flowering and you begin to fall in love with it.

The thought that could lead to a life-changing decision has now taken over all your other thoughts. It has changed the way you feel and the way you look at things. It has taken precedence over everything in your life, and it keeps getting bigger, its roots growing stronger in your mind.

The thought is now a tree, and this tree will be your refuge from the world when it directs its harsh opinion towards your decision. Rest under the shade of this tree, that you nurtured from a thought you did not want to think about. Rest beneath it, and let people pass by as they see what they want to see and say what they want. You have earned this shade.

  10. Very true! Some thoughts grow in your mind even though you try to push it away and one day it grows into a tree of thoughts and that’s when you take a life changing decision. Behind every such decision is a long thought process.

  11. I couldn’t agree more with the opening line, “A life-changing decision is not one that a person takes suddenly. Even though sometimes it may often seem like it is done so.” Sometimes, when a decision that has been developing & simmering deep down in the subconscious mind turns into action, I’m often met with startled comments from those around. What really happens is only clearer to me now.

  12. What is a beautiful analogy, Mayuri. An idea is indeed a seed that needs to be sustained to grow. And more often than not gets nipped in the bud.

  13. Another fabulously articulated post Mayuri. I agree that many decisions are formed slowly but surely. But sometimes, there are split second decisions too change the course of one’s life. I guess it depends on the situation & the decision itself.

  18. I guess unwanted thoughts of different kinds cloud our minds mostly when our minds are at our weakest phase and we can’t really ignore or concentrate on meaningful ones. This is such an interesting topic.

  19. It is often hard to make life-changing decisions. Correct me if I am wrong, often we don’t want to lose our comfort zone that’s why we can’t make hard decisions but yes they keep knocking on the doors of our hearts always.

  20. Well, it’s for the best if that thought is about to bring a positive change. Things can go down pretty soon otherwise. I like to see thoughts as cars on a busy road. You can’t stop them, go with them. Best you can do is let them pass

  21. Major life changing decisions always have a seed that we nurtured knowingly or unknowingly. Certain thoughts linger in mind no matter how hard you try to control or ignore it. It’s better we deal with it before postponing
