The Plot:
Naina Grover is in a long distance relationship. As it progresses she realises that being in it is like being controlled from afar. Her boyfriend has access to her at all times, while whenever she wishes to connect to him he isn’t available. As she makes steady and remarkable progress on her career front, she realises that her relationship is going downhill.
Naina travels to meet her boyfriend and his family, on his request, only to get the complete and clear picture of their relationship.
Naina lives away from her family and her Maasi (mother’s sister) and Maasi’s son, her cousin, are her only link to family. Her cousin Arjun introduces Naina to his best friend, Aditya. Sparks fly between Naina and Aditya but are put out immediately by Naina.
What will Naina do? Will Aditya take the next step? Do they have a future together?

My Thoughts:
The plot of the story is not new, but it has been handled differently. I liked how the characters have been fleshed out. The reference to the Punjabi – Bengali angle was erratic and then forgotten before it was brought in, in spurts.
My view is that the brand names could’ve been done away with, and there was a little too much of calling each other ‘Baby’.
Debasmita’s joy and eagerness towards writing comes across in every word. Her writing is bubbly, like a bottle of champagne. I loved the vibrant and eye-catching cover too.
Some taut editing would have done wonders to this book, though. As would going through the grammar with a fine tooth-comb would.
Hope & Sunshine by Debasmita Nath Ghosh is a light and quick reading.
