She could have been 75 years old, or maybe more. Or less. Nobody knew her real age and neither did Shanta Tai.
Married at the age of 9 and a first time mother at 14, Shanta Tai had no idea when she was born. She had spent a lifetime taking care of people and obeying them without question. She first obeyed to her parents and later her in-laws and Husband. Shanta Tai now obeyed her grandchildren.
She particularly enjoyed obeying her favourite grand-child, her 10 year old granddaughter who, without realising it, was making the one secret dream her grandmother had come true. She had been teaching Shanta Tai to read and write as she learnt it at school.

A very touching story. I too have gone along roughly the same path with my story. Well written, Mayuri..
This story of yours reminded me of Sudha Murthy’s book “How I taught my grandmother to read and write”. beautiful story penned.

Beautiful tale Mayuri, with a happy end to ever struggling & hardworking Tai. Many such nameless Tai’s we see around just a smile make them so happy.
Lovely
Lovely , I am sure obeying her grand daughter is giving her the real pleasure
Beautiful tale M, it’s nice to the new generations helping the older ones instead of shunting them.
Beautiful tale of grandma and her relation to the grandchild!
