R – Reality Checks & Other Rude Awakenings (When life laughs at your plans.) #BlogchatterA2Z

Posted on 21 April 202530 March 2025 By Mayuri Sharrma

They say if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans. But if you want to make life laugh? Oh, just get a little too confident. Start thinking you’ve got it all figured out, and watch life roll up its sleeves and say, “Oh, this is going to be fun.”

Reality checks are life’s way of reminding us that we are not in charge. It’s like placing an online order for “Success & Smooth Sailing” and instead receiving “Unexpected Plot Twists & Humility.” No refunds. No exchanges. Just lessons.

Remember when you thought adulting meant cake for breakfast because no one could stop you? And then reality hit with a thing called metabolism. Or when you strutted into a job interview thinking you’d charm your way through, only for the interviewer to ask, “So where do you see yourself in five years?” and your brain responded with a blank PowerPoint slide.

Life

Life has a way of humbling us at the worst (or best, depending on your sense of humor) moments. Like when you send a risky text and instantly regret it, but the WiFi magically becomes faster than ever. Or when you confidently strut down the street, only to trip over absolutely nothing. Or when you thought you were financially stable, but then you checked your bank account after a weekend of “treating yourself”.

The worst reality checks? When your carefully planned future turns into a comedy special. You made a five-year plan? Cute. Life turned it into a scavenger hunt. You planned the perfect vacation? Here comes a flight delay, lost luggage, and a mysterious extra charge on your hotel bill. You planned to stay single and focus on yourself? Cue an unexpected love interest with great hair and impeccable timing.

But here is the best part – while reality checks may be rude, they are also ridiculously funny after you survive them. They remind us not to take life too seriously because, clearly, life isn’t taking us seriously either.

So, the next time life smacks you with an unexpected plot twist, just laugh along. After all, every great story starts with “I had a plan, but then…”

I am participating in the #BlogchatterA2Z, and this is my post on the theme ‘Of Epiphanies & Eyerolls‘.

Keeping it together is an art form. It’s about looking calm while internally screaming, nodding wisely when you have no idea what’s going on, and holding a cup of coffee like it’s the only thing keeping you tethered to reality. The key is confidence. Not actual confidence, of course, but…

Ah, the fine art of letting go –  so often mistaken for weakness when, in reality, it is an elite-level skill that requires years of frustration, countless deep breaths, and the occasional primal scream into a pillow (or into the abyss, if you’re feeling dramatic). See, true wisdom isn’t about…

Remember all the advice we were given growing up? It turns out a lot of it was absolute nonsense. Yet, like a stubborn stain on our psyche, it stuck. Well, it’s time to grab some mental detergent and scrub that nonsense right out! Let’s look at some of the worst…

This is exactly the kind of post that hits you with truth but also makes you laugh! The line about being “smacked by life like a dosa on a hot tawa” had me ROFLing! Reality checks really do come sizzling sometimes.

Reality checks? Oh, they’re like surprise pop quizzes from life—unexpected, uncomfortable, but totally necessary. They slap you with the truth and make you rethink everything, but hey, at least they keep you grounded.

With whatever life has offered me so far, you know very well that, I totally feel seen in this post. Yes, life has a crazy way of taking ugly turns when you think, you have everything under control. Loved it totally.
