Serves 2
  • 250 gms medium sized Prawns (after cleaning the quantity was about 150 gms)
  • 2 medium sized Onions, chopped very fine
  • 1 medium sized Tomato, chopped very fine
  • 2 Green Chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 5-6 Curry Leaves
  • 2 Tbsps Oil
  • 1 Tbsp, or to taste Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 1 Tbsp or to taste Red Chilly Powder
  • 1 Tsp, or to taste Dhania / coriander powder
  • ½ Tbsp, or to taste, Haldi / Turmeric Powder
  • ½ Tsp, or to taste Garam Masala
  • Salt, to taste
  • ½ Tsp, or to taste Lime Juice
  1. Clean the prawns thoroughly.
  2. Soak them in water to which turmeric powder has been added and keep aside for 5-10 minutes. Doing this ensures that the strong natural smell of the prawns reduces.
  3. Heat the oil in a non-stick pan.
  4. Add the chopped onions to it and fry them till they start changing color
  5. Add the ginger garlic paste and green chillies and fry some more
  6. Add the chopped tomatoes to this and fry till the onions and tomatoes are cooked well and browned
  7. Add the red chilly powder, dhania powder, haldi, garam masala and salt now and mix well
  8. Add the prawns to this mix and fry them for 5-10 minutes.
  9. Add 2-3 tspns of water to this, mix well, cover and cook till done.
  10. Switch off the flame, add the lime juice, mix well together.
  11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
  12. Tastes best with Rice, Appams, Kerala Parota, Dosas and Idli.
  13. Prawns cook very fast and the danger of over cooking them is that their texture turns to rubber. Keep that in mind while cooking them.
