Hey there, 2021! #Welcome2021BlogHop

Posted on 31 December 202031 May 2021 by Mayuri Sharrma

Hey there, 2021!

Look at you, strutting about all shiny and new! Pause from the preening and come here and sit with this old man for a bit.

You know what, newbie? You should be thankful to me! Thankful to me, you raise your eyebrows? When the entire world was deriding me and couldn’t wait for me to pass the baton to you?

Yes, thankful to me!

Why?

You see, I am handing you the most evolved set of human beings in the history of mankind.

Hey_There_2021_Sirimiri

Most of the people who survived me, 2020, seem to have developed resilience, say they are full of gratitude and their hearts are filled with love for the Universe and almost everyone around them. There are some who are grateful as I taught them skills they never knew were their forte (just between you and me though, the mention of another Dalgona Coffee or Banana Bread makes me go cross-eyed!) Others are thrilled to realize that they can do whatever they need to, even washing vessels galore, as Mayuri will never let you forget.

While everyone was doing their – I am a lotus and I am blossoming in the mud thingy – very few spared a thought to my feelings. Imagine how terrible it feels to be cursed, ridiculed, and whatnot. The talk about Mental Health has been big this year, so let’s not forget I have feelings too, ok! Do you know how hurtful it is to know that people cant wait to see you go?

Anyway, I digress.

So, I have made it so easy for you. What education, life, and upbringing couldn’t teach many, I apparently did. They say I taught them to be grateful, thankful, helpful, that I taught them to love themselves. What I couldn’t teach them though was to be humble about it. You’ll find them repeating it everywhere, with benign smiles to match.

So, you dear 2021 have your task cut out for you, or so you think, eh? As I rest my weary self I have my eyes on you, and them. I am waiting to see how many carry forward the lessons they claim to have learned. It will be interesting to see if the change in people was for good or just a skin they will shed when they get back to regular life.

Slainte, 2021! I wish you well young lad.

Defeat me, erase the unpleasant memories I gave people, make them smile and shine!

Wishing you all a wonderful New Year. May it be all that you wish for, and more!

Somehow I’m not ready to forgive you yet, 2020. Maybe a few years down the line?

Till then I will wish everyone an amazing 2021

Ahh what a lovely post. The letter is so beautiful and I could feel the excitement to welcome the young lad in our lives. The old man is now too old. Though we are grateful for everything he gave us. Such a heartfelt and realistic poetic letter woven with warmth of love and hope. Thank you so much for joining us in the blog hop. I am grateful to you. I wish you a great 2021 ahead. Best wishes dear.

Haha, 2021 only needs to steer clear from disasters and it would be a gem before our eyes! This year has set the bar pretty low. But yes, we have indeed emerged stronger after this year, and learned to be grateful for all that used to be taken for granted. Here’s to a wonderful 2021 to come!

Thats a different style presenting your thoughts Mayuri. Loved it. Yes, 2020 has not been a great year for many for several reasons. To me, apart from the fact that I don’t know, when I would be able to make my next India trip and see my parents, it has been a pretty blessed year professionally and personally. I just wish in 2021, we dint have to wish Happy New Year with 6 ft distance. 🙂

What a creative take on the prompt and I simply loved the message the old man aka 2020 had to give to the young lad aka 2021. Absolutely agree that this year has been an eye-opener with its very hard lessons and a lot of sacrifices to offer. Thanks for writing this post. Loved it, Mayuri!
