Fate #WriteBravely #Day3

Something old

Something new

Something borrowed

Something blue

As the waves kept attempting to touch the shore these words came back to Nicole. They repeated themselves until she wanted to run away. She stepped out of her shoes and walked away from the water, the wet sand squelching between her toes.

Was she doing the right thing?  Nicole wondered, yet again. Would she regret this decision once she slipped into her new life? The questions she had been battling for the past few months now attacked her thick and fast, making her doubt the confidence with which she had taken the decision.

Some memories could never be erased, no matter how much you tried. The fact was that the more one relieved them, the shaper they got.

She could never forget Ron despite what he had done to her. She couldn’t stop loving him, and God knows she had tried. Her family and friends thought she was crazy, as love that isn’t reciprocated isn’t love, they rationalised.

They didn’t know what Ron and she had. A love that was so pure, so selfless that one thought of the other before they thought of themselves. Their wedding day saw Nicole, the prettiest bride ever, tapping her heels as she waited for Ron to turn up. Her handsome groom did turn up, on a stretcher, dead.  A car accident on the way to their wedding had claimed his life.

He hadn’t kept his promise to be there, he had let her down.

She knew that she would never be able to love any other man like she did Ron, till she found someone who made her love him more.

Nicole walked back to her shoes, a gift from Ron, and gently let them into the ocean as she bid Ron and his memories goodbye.

She walked away without looking back, towards love that was pure and selfless and would never let her down.

Tomorrow Nicole would be donning yet another gown, called a habit, as the gave herself to Jesus. Our fate lives within us, you only have to be brave enough to see it, the thought erased the creases of worry and brought a smile to her face.

She had found and rewritten her fate.
