Of Childhood, Cigarettes and Sweet memories

Posted on 6 June 201713 July 2025 by Mayuri Sharrma

Adults of my generation will openly admit they smoked as children. We smoked often, we smoked in front of parents, at school, with friends. Yes, we did. Because the only cigarettes we smoked were Phantom Sweet Cigarettes!

Who remembers that slim, white, mint-flavoured candy with a red, food coloured tip? That came in a red and white striped pack with a serious-looking mug of Phantom on it?

Cigarettes-Sirimiri
This Sweet Nostalgia Hamper was a giveaway at our School Reunion 🙂

Ah, the memories associated with Harnick Phantom Sweet Cigarettes!  I remember us girls moistening that red tip with our tongue and using it as ‘Lipstick’. How grown-up that faint shade of pink on our lips made us feel! We also pretended to be gangsters, as we ‘smoked’.  Bad guys! As sensible people know, cigarette Smoking is Injurious to Health, and they should stay away from the cancer stick.

Phantom Sweet Cigarettes turned into a fond memory as they disappeared from shelves and were nowhere to be found. I tried to find them desperately, for a school reunion, with no luck. Until I stumbled upon them in a Google search, which led me to Amazon, and I struck gold! I immediately bought two packs online. At the reunion, my school friends were thrilled and wanted to know how to buy them. So I’ve made it easier for them, and you, and you could order them here;

I couldn’t stop at that! I looked for more sweet nostalgia online and found Nutties, that crunchy chocolate bead that used to be another childhood favourite!

I literally felt like a kid in a candy store!

There was one more memory that my taste buds needed to rekindle, Swad! That sweet and spicy ‘Digestive Candy’ that we loved! And smacked our lips each time a varied flavour made its presence felt on a taste bud! Ah!

Did this post make you walk down memory lane? Which are the sweet treats you remember from your childhood? Do share them, and memories attached 🙂

    Ah! Nostalgia hits so sweetly here 🙂
    I recently found Nutties at a store and went crazy! Another childhood favorite of mine was Paan Pasand! How I love it and I was thrilled by the red color it left on my tongue. A friend of mine found these at a store near his place and brings me some every now and then 😀

    Of the above 3, Swad was a part of my childhood. Others were Pan Pasand toffee, Kismi toffee bar and Melody hai choclatee.

    I love the candies that we had like Melody and those hardboiled sugar candies. Of course, Phantom cigarettes were such fun. 🙂

    Phantom cigerettes!!!! Awesome miss these so much.. and have such fond memories associated with them. My father would somehow disapprove of them, and when I did manage to sneak them in secretly was caught redhanded and had to return it back to the shop!!

    Of course I had those cigarettes. And if you’re brought up in the North like me you would have definitely tried to blow ‘smoke rings’ during the winter. Oh it was so much fun. Sometime back the son rediscovered them. He called me on the intercom from the playground asking if he could have a cigarette his friend was offering. He was just about 10. How I freaked!! Till finally he told me they were the sweet ones. Oh and Nutties are still my all-time favourite sweets.

    Aww, I love Phantom candies! So much! Nutties too. I think I am slowly growing old though. Unable to take too many sweet things. Wonder why. Ah well, nostalgia serves its purpose. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

    Nuttties are my husbands favourite and he looked out everywhere for them. He got them in a supermarket near us and now he keeps few packs at home. I remember these cigarettes and didn’t know swad and cigarettes are available on Amazon. Your post took me down the memory lane.
